Film on an Okla. Superfund site's impact shows on Independent Lens
Picher, OKThe Creek Runs Red, a documentary on how a Superfund site is forcing an Oklahoma community to uproot  to escape its toxic aftermath, will be shown on Independent Lens on Nov. 20.

The film, co-produced and directed by Julianna Brannum (Comanche), Bradley Peesley and James Payne, in association with KERA-TV, is being co-presented by NAPT and ITVS.
Native Radio Theater Call for Scripts


Native American Public Telecommunications (NAPT) is accepting scripts for its third season of the Native Radio Theater project.

Scripts should be short works, 10-minute or one-act plays no more than an hour in length from Native American theater companies, authors or playwrights. Postmarked deadline is Dec. 20, 2007. A national panel will select three finalists by April. Winners will split a prize of $1,000. Funding for production will also be available for chosen projects.

VisionMaker Film Festival Opens Nov. 16 in Lincoln, Neb.

Shayla Stonefeather in the movie ImprintThe VisionMaker Film Festival kicks off at 6 p.m., Nov. 16, at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center in Lincoln, Neb.

Five filmmakers will be in Lincoln to discuss their work and make presentations in university and public school classrooms during the festival Nov. 16-29. Support for the festival comes from the Cooper Foundation, the Nebraska Arts Council, the Nebraska Humanities Council, and the Lincoln Journal Star, a Lee Enterprises publication.

NAPT Seeks Journalism Fellows

NAPT, a member of the National Minority Consortia, invites you to submit an application for the NMC Journalism Fellowship, a partnership between the NMC and journalism schools around the country to create fellowships for recent journalism graduates and second year journalism graduate students. The NMC's goal is to bring a younger and more diverse set of voices into the reporting around the 2008 elections on PBS and other public media outlets.

Inaugural Global Green Indigenous Film Festival Seeks Submissions

The National Tribal Environmental Council (NTEC) and the New Mexico Tourism Department, will take the global stage, April 18-20, 2008, launching its inaugural Global Green Indigenous Film Festival. Organizers are seeking film entries for festival, which will be held in conjunction with NTEC's 15th Environmental Conference April 15-18, 2008.

Formats accepted: DVD, VHS, Beta SP.

Film entries should be mailed to:

Patricia Loew
Patty Loew wants to change the role of Native Americans in the media.

Loew, a professor at the University of Wisconsin, spent 12 years as a co-anchor for ABC in Madison, Wis.  She feels that it is important for Natives to be involved in both local and mainstream media.

"Radio and television are really culturally compatible with who we are as Native people," said Loew.
